Project Manager for Climate Protection and Children's Rights

terre des hommes Germany is a non-governmental organisation that has been fighting for children’s rights and to promote equitable development without racial, religious, political, cultural or gender-based discrimination since 1967. Together with our partner organisations, we support more than 360 projects in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Over the past ten years, terre des hommes has expanded and consolidated its political and programmatic commitment to children's environmental rights. Our work is based on the conviction that a healthy and sustainable environment is a basic condition for the development and safeguarding of all other rights of children today and future generations. The climate crisis, together with its already noticeable effects, represents an existential and ever-growing threat that disproportionately affects those who have the least to do with the causes.

As part of a research & development project that reports directly to the Executive Board, terre des hommes strives to explore programme perspectives that make a direct and measurable contribution to climate protection and sustainability. For this we are looking to hire a

Project Manager for Climate Protection and Children's Rights

Your tasks:

  • As a project manager, you coordinate terre des hommes' research & development project on climate protection and children's rights.
  • You actively develop terre des hommes' strategy with regard to climate protection projects and (critical) positioning on carbon offsetting.
  • You complement an international team of children's rights and programme experts, especially with your environmental expertise and experience.
  • In cooperation with our regional offices, you will support the design as well as the development of a specific monitoring & evaluation system for social climate protection projects with the aim of community-based solutions for CO2 reduction.
  • You will work closely with our corporate partners, as well as with environmental and climate protection organisations.
  • You report directly to the Executive Board Member Communication about the progress of the project.
  • You contribute to internal sustainability strategies and reports in Germany (e.g. DNK, EMAS).

What we want from you:

  • You have completed a degree or training related to ecology, environmental sciences, sustainability or another relevant discipline.
  • You have relevant professional experience in the design, implementation or monitoring of projects in the areas of sustainability / environment / climate protection, ideally in the global south.
  • You are familiar with global standards/certification systems for climate protection projects (e.g. Gold Standard) and mechanisms for calculating CO2 emissions.
  • You are familiar with the important international agreements on climate protection (e.g. the Paris Agreement) and their implications for state and corporate action.
  • In addition to ecological perspectives, you also bring development policy and human rights perspectives to sustainability projects in the Global South.
  • You think strategically, have strong project management skills, can mediate between the different needs of the relevant stakeholders and plan and structure complex processes.
  • You are willing to travel occasionally within Germany and internationally.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written English; German and other language skills are an asset.
