Our focus on World Environment Day: a tower game about sustainability and our children's rights exhibition with a quiz from the Casa Blanca youth center.
Every two years, Delmenhorst hosts the Night of Youth, whose organizers aim to promote an open and diverse democratic society. Many youth centers, social youth services, schools, and other institutions participate.
This year, we once again participated in the adult education center's program. This time, we presented our children's rights exhibition and the tower game "A Good Life for All," which Barbara Wessels developed for the TDH thematic group "Alternative Development." It vividly illustrates the connection between economic growth on the one hand and resource consumption, the environment, and human rights on the other.
Our exhibition, for which young people from the Delmenhorst youth center "Casa Blanca" had created a fantastic quiz for the Night of Youth, was presented in the atrium of the adult education center, where its colorful roll-up banners were a real eye-catcher. Many interested people studied the banners and participated in the youth center's quiz.
The tower game, consisting of a colorful tower made of Jenga blocks that had to be added to or removed from the tower based on event cards, was very popular. Skill was required to prevent the tower from collapsing. Many also engaged with the content of the event cards, which, for example, made it clear that making a profit from cheap sneakers can lead to the depletion of resources, environmental protection, and human rights. Even the mayor joined in the fun.
In the end, we managed to prevent the tower's collapse, because in addition to cards that thinned its ranks, there were also those that stabilized it. But there was definitely some excitement...
