The strategic goals of Terre des Hommes

The Delegates' Conference is one of Terre des Hommes . Every five years, project partners, youth delegates, volunteer members and staff jointly define the goals that guide all our work for the following five years.

These so-called strategic goals describe the areas and fields of work in which we pool our resources to fulfill our organization's mission: to work together with children to enforce their rights worldwide.

By 2028, children and young people affected by exploitation, violence, and exclusion will have greater access to high-quality, needs-based learning and training. This will promote their personal development , their ability to resolve conflicts peacefully , and decent working and living conditions , thereby overcoming barriers to economic, social, and political participation.

By 2028, children and young people placed in vulnerable situations due to migration will regain the rights that have been taken from them. This will be achieved through a coherent transnational program comprised of interconnected local support structures. Children and young people at risk due to migration will have the opportunity to help shape the child-centered program according to their rights and needs, and to make their demands heard locally, nationally, and transnationally.

Terre des Hommes ' project countries will act as young environmental activists and organize themselves in civil society networks that community-based solutions to the diverse environmental crises and hold political decision-makers accountable to guarantee their environmental rights and protection from environmental hazards.

By 2028, children and young people, together with Terre des Hommes and partner organizations, against gender-based human rights violations and discrimination . They will demand their gender rights and contribute their local experiences and voices to feminist movements that push for the dismantling of existing structures of oppression , particularly regarding gender-based human rights violations, by challenging patriarchal and binary structures in culture and society as the root cause of gender-based human rights violations and discrimination at the local, national, and international levels.

In addition to the four strategic goals, our Delegates' Conference has defined a central focus for Terre des Hommes ' work until 2028:

We realize children's rights by building democratic societies. Through our work, we aim to contribute to preserving and expanding safe and empowering democratic spaces as a fundamental prerequisite for the implementation of human and children's rights.

In contrast to the strategic goals, the main theme formulates an overarching work mandate that is anchored in all fields of work and project regions.

Development policy positioning

In order to contextualize the work of Terre des Hommes within current political and social debates, the Delegates' Conference and the General Assembly adopted a more fundamental development policy position in 2023: "Dare to transform – for an Earth of humanity" ( German | English | Spanish ).
