Working children publish their demands
Dialogue Works campaign gives working children and young people space for a powerful common voice that wants to be heard in international politics. The campaign was initiated by Terre des Hommes and the Kinderothilfe. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supports you financially.
In the meantime, more than 30 teams of working children from all over the world work together in the campaign. In January 2023 they organized the "Global Conference of Working Children and Young People" in Kigali (Rwanda). 63 children and adolescents from 16 countries exchanged their experiences and wishes, discussed each other, carried out workshops and were able to work creatively.
The Kigali declaration
The highlight of the conference: the adoption of the Kigali declaration. In it, the working children demand decisions from the politicians that are more realistic and context -specific than before and the living conditions working and the living conditions take into account and improve. In particular, they demand:
- Efficient measures to combat poverty , in particular the ensuring of crumbling jobs so that the basic needs can be met,
- education prioritiously and to give every child access to high quality education and training,
- To protect children from exploitation and poor working conditions and to enable them to work appropriately and worthy in parallel with the school attendance,
- involve children in the laws and decisions relating to them , to hear them and to involve their view,
- Protection against violence and discrimination.
The children will now intensively discuss these demands in their respective political environment with decision -makers and work towards their implementation.
