- Effect monitoring
Donors have a right to know what their money has achieved. The impact of a project usually only becomes apparent long after it has been completed. Learn here how Terre des Hommes measures the impact of its projects. Learn more: Impact Monitoring
- Evaluations and program analyses
Terre des Hommes typically implements its funded projects in collaboration with local partner organizations. Local experts advise the project partners during implementation, and the results are reviewed on-site. For large projects, external evaluations and program analyses supplement Terre des Hommes ' own impact assessments. Learn more: Evaluations and Program Analyses
- Auditing
The annual financial statements are submitted to an auditing firm every year. The last audit was conducted in May 2024 by Context Treuhand GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft, Osnabrück, and the financial statements were unqualified ( see the auditor's report ).
- Club management
The association Terre des Hommes Germany e. V. has a full-time board of directors consisting of three members, each with their own area of responsibility. A Presidential Board , elected by the general assembly and comprised of seven volunteer members of the association, oversees the work of the board of directors. A clear separation of management and oversight is thus consistently implemented. Our organizational structure
- Internal Audit
Once a year, the association's internal audit department reviews several areas of work at its national headquarters. The two auditors are elected by the association's members at the general assembly and work on a voluntary basis. The auditors themselves determine the focus of their audit each year.
- Controlling
A business plan is prepared for each fiscal year and approved by the Presidential Board . Adherence to this plan is mandatory and is monitored through continuous target/actual comparisons. Adjustments are made annually, if necessary, through a supplementary budget. Controlling involves processing, commenting on, and evaluating the financial accounting figures, as well as ensuring the auditing of projects in the regions. This auditing encompasses both financial and substantive aspects. The frequency and scope of these audits are defined but can be adapted to current needs. Audit reports from foreign auditors in the project regions are an integral part of this process. In India, all projects are audited by external auditors; in other regions, audits are commissioned on a random basis. For co-financed projects, in addition to the annual project audit, the granting institution conducts a final project audit. Substantive controlling operates based on the Logical Framework. Key performance indicators (KPIs) and other indicators for achieving objectives are defined for each project and regularly reported. These reports are systematically analyzed and serve as the basis for improvements. An internal reporting system defines the regularity and responsibilities of all reports.
