With their help, we ensure that children receive education worldwide - whether in the daycare center, at school or with an apprenticeship. However, learning is more: peace education, children's rights and environmental education are also important knowledge that we give young people on the way.

Education for everyone!
All children have a right to education: This is in Article 28 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children. But millions of children worldwide still cannot go to school. You have to work, the next school is too far away or you are on the run.
- 773 million people worldwide are illiterate, including around 60 percent girls and women.
- 64 million primary school children (6 to 11 years) and 195 million young people (12 to 17 years) do not go to school.
- A third of all children who do not go to school worldwide live in conflict regions.
Girls are particularly disadvantaged: they often have to help in the household and take care of their siblings. The school attendance is considered superfluous for them than for boys, for example because they are supposed to get married early. Without education, you then lack the basis for a self -determined and independent life.
Our educational projects
With our projects, we ensure that children go to school and kindergarten and receive young people. Learning is more than reading, writing and arithmetic: peace education, children's rights and environmental education are also important components of our projects. For children on flight or in war zones, education has to do even more: it has to restore their trust in people and help them find their place in the world.
Global learning
Terre des Hommes not only supports educational projects in poorer countries, but is also committed to global learning in Germany. This approach combines intercultural education, peace and environmental education, human rights education and sustainable development. Through global learning, we promote a holistic understanding of education and development.
