20 years of partnership:
Terre des Hommes in Argentina
Since 2006, Terre des Hommes has been working in partnership with local organizations in Argentina to empower children and young people in particularly difficult situations. Over the past twenty years, the initial project has developed into a diverse and growing network that links education, participation, human rights, and environmental justice.
Beginnings
Our first project in Argentina started in 2006 together with three partner organizations, including CECOPAL and APADIM. The aim was to promote education and employment opportunities for young people in socially disadvantaged situations. Measures included social and vocational training, support in formal education, and guidance on entering the job market and starting small businesses.
Focus and target groups
Our work is based on a firm human rights and intersectional approach. We are particularly committed to the rights of children and young people with disabilities, gender equality, environmental and migration justice, and LGBTQI+ rights. A central concern is creating spaces where young people – especially children and young people from urban working-class neighborhoods and children and young people with disabilities – can network, learn together, and act with self-efficacy. We understand inclusion as a societal change that arises from the collective actions of young people.

Over the following two decades, proven measures were expanded and new approaches were developed:
- Help for students to stay in school and learn successfully;
- technical and vocational training as well as initiatives for social and economic participation;
- Networking with other organizations, schools and politics;
- political advocacy on topics such as environmental education, sex education, disability rights and inclusion;
- Programs that promote the active participation and self-efficacy of children and young people.
Current status and outlook
In 2026, the expertise and measures developed over the past 20 years were consolidated into four integrated projects with three partner organizations (CECOPAL, APADIM, Che Pibe). This network is now strong and well-coordinated, with a visible presence in the project region of Latin America.
Strategically, we have expanded our work geographically and thematically: strengthened cooperation between Córdoba and Buenos Aires, more intensive lobbying and public relations work, and a thematic focus that combines several key objectives. This creates the foundation for sustainably empowering even more children and young people.
