130,000 euros in emergency aid for Nepal

Additional financial resources from Dachser SE and the VW employee foundation for Terre des Hommes emergency relief

Osnabrück/Berlin, September 4, 2026 – Following the devastating flash floods in the border region between Nepal and Tibet, the children's rights organization Terre des Hommes is significantly expanding its emergency relief efforts on the ground. A donation of €50,000 from Dachser SE, €20,000 from the Volkswagen Employee Foundation, and €30,000 in other donations will provide an additional €100,000 in emergency aid, which will be used to support affected families and provide targeted protection for children in emergency shelters.

 

The humanitarian situation in Nepal remains dire. Thousands of people are still homeless, while infrastructure is largely destroyed. Terre des Hommes ' local partner organizations are distributing clean drinking water, food, and blankets on the ground. Households with children under two years old are also receiving infant formula and urgently needed hygiene and personal care items. In addition, particularly vulnerable families are receiving portable cookers and solar lamps to enable them to be self-sufficient. The additional funding from Dachser SE and the Volkswagen Employee Foundation now makes it possible to provide even more support for children, alongside these essential basic necessities. 

 

“Children are extremely vulnerable, especially in the first days after a disaster,” explains Joshua Hofert, spokesperson for the board of Terre des Hommes Germany. “Many of them have lost family members, are in shock, and are exposed to acute dangers such as exploitation or disease in overcrowded emergency camps. The rapid increase in funding is a crucial step in establishing safe spaces for children, ensuring initial psychosocial support, and stabilizing local services.”

 

Terre des Hommes is committed to ensuring that the rights and needs of children remain the top priority in all aid efforts. This includes protection from violence in emergency shelters, medical care, and access to clean drinking water and food. As the needs in the region continue to exceed the capacity of current aid budgets, Terre des Hommes is appealing for further donations.
