50 years Terre des Hommes in India

For 50 years, we and our partner organizations in India have been working with heart and passion for the rights of children – a great reason to celebrate!

The anniversary year was launched with a vibrant celebration in Pune, organized by our regional office there and our partner organizations New Vision and the Centre for Youth Development and Activities. More than 400 children and young people from ten Indian states participated with theater, music, and dance – a vivid symbol of commitment, community, and hope. Among the guests were our board member Joshua Hofert, Gottfried von Gemmingen (German Embassy in India), and Bernhard Simon (Dachser SE). Dachser SE has supported numerous projects in India since 2005.

Since 1975, we have achieved many important milestones together with our partners: Our path has led us away from orphanages and international adoptions towards community-based and rights-based projects. We have strengthened the right to education, combated child labor and human trafficking, and enshrined comprehensive child protection. After disasters and during the Covid-19 pandemic, we supported children with emergency aid, learning assistance, and psychosocial support. Today, children and young people are actively shaping the future – as strong voices for gender equality, peace, and climate protection.

And we will continue: so that every child gets a chance. Thank you to everyone who is on this path with us!
