PRESS RELEASE
Acceptance commitments for Afghan women and men must be honored.
On December 17th, the campaign “Recruit now – keep your promises!” took place in Berlin. Statement by Joshua Hofert, spokesperson for the board of Terre des Hommes :
“Around 1,800 Afghans with German asylum offers are still waiting to finally come to Germany. They have campaigned for years for democracy, the rule of law, and the rights of women and children, and now fear deportation back to Afghanistan and falling into the hands of the Taliban. According to the Interior Ministry, there is no political interest in accepting several hundred of them into Germany. This is no way to treat people! Together with more than 250 organizations, we are demanding in an open letter to the German government that it upholds human rights, honors its commitments, and brings these endangered Afghans to Germany by the end of the year.”
Location: Platz der Republik, corner of Paul-Löbe-Allee ( exact location )
With: Amnesty International Germany, International Rescue Committee (IRC) Germany, Kabul Airlift, PRO ASYL, Terre des Hommes Germany, and other actors.
Action: An oversized copy of the open letter from more than 250 civil society organizations will be displayed, demanding the admission of Afghan refugees. Members of the German Bundestag will be invited to this gathering. Statements from affected Afghan refugees will be read aloud, and representatives from some of the participating organizations will give short speeches.
Representatives of the organizations will be available for interviews on site.
