A home without violence

Cambodia: Against physical violence as a means of "education"

Corporal punishment is widespread in Cambodia and still legal within families. Many children are defenseless against violence in their own homes. Fathers, especially in poor families, often see beatings as a legitimate method of discipline, taking out their anger and frustration on their children.

In the Terre des Hommes project for the "Prevention of Domestic Violence and Violence Against Children" in Siem Reap, parents learn how to raise their children without hitting them. Together with our partner organization "CWCC"¹, we also train young people and fathers there who are committed to promoting non-violent coexistence within families in their neighborhoods.

Political commitment to child protection

Together with Cambodian authorities Terre des Hommes and CWCC are working on a National Action Plan to end violence against children nationwide.
