Earthquake in Afghanistan - Help urgently needed

On August 31, 2025, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistani border. The provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Panjshir were particularly hard hit. In Kunar alone, more than 1,400 people were killed and 3,100 injured. Thousands of houses were destroyed. Many victims are still missing because remote areas are difficult to access.

"The aid is provided by vetted partner organizations of Terre des Hommes and directly benefits the people. The structures of the Taliban government are not involved in the project implementation."
Chris Hartmann, Humanitarian Aid Officer

Local people are desperately searching for relatives and are forced to dig mass graves in many places. The need for humanitarian aid is enormous: in addition to emergency shelters, food, hygiene products, and baby formula are urgently needed to ensure the survival of the affected families.

Our partners are on the ground assessing the situation and initiating emergency relief efforts. They are preparing food parcels containing flour, rice, and beans, along with baby food and basic equipment such as gas stoves and plates. However, due to the collapse of the telephone network in the region, we are only receiving limited information. This website will be updated as soon as we receive new information.
