Heavy and persistent rains have flooded large parts of southern Africa. The provinces of Gaza and regions around Maputo in Mozambique are particularly affected. Rivers have burst their banks, dams have had to be opened, and entire villages are underwater. Thousands of families have lost their homes, fields and crops have been destroyed, and schools and health clinics have been damaged. Many people have lost everything that gave them security.

“We are deeply concerned about the situation. It is alarming to see people sleeping outdoors, without access to safe drinking water and sufficient food, while we lack the necessary resources to help them.”
Lopes Mahumane employees of the partner organization MDM

Children are particularly suffering from the consequences of the disaster.

Access to clean drinking water is severely restricted – the risk of diseases such as diarrhea and cholera is rising dramatically.
Schools are closed or inaccessible, and school supplies have been washed away. Many children are traumatized, frightened, and experiencing a loss of security and routine. Food, temporary shelter, mattresses, blankets, and cooking equipment . To prevent the hunger situation from worsening due to destroyed harvests, seeds and harvesting tools are also essential. Our partners are on the ground providing support to people in this acute emergency.

Our aid measures at a glance:

  • Evacuation measures from severely flooded areas, especially for vulnerable people
  • Establishment of temporary accommodation for families who have lost everything
  • Distribution of food and non-food items (hygiene materials, blankets, cooking utensils)

Please stand by the people in the flood-stricken areas. Thank you for your support and commitment!
