Gaza: Solar wells provide drinking water

Even after the ceasefire, the people in the Gaza Strip are suffering greatly: clean water is scarce, and since the destruction of the only power plant, the energy supply has been severely restricted. Our joint project with our partner organization Al-Ard for Agricultural Development and in cooperation with medico international addresses this need to improve the situation for many families in the short term.

First and foremost, it is crucial to provide as many people as possible with access to clean water: To this end, wells are being repaired and equipped with solar panels for the pumps. This ensures a reliable drinking water supply and also enables families to irrigate their fields again, allowing them to become self-sufficient. One well in Khan Younis has already been repaired and is operational, and three more will be completed soon, provided the ceasefire holds. In addition, 334 fishing families are receiving direct support to repair their boats and equipment. The fish they catch can feed the families, or they can sell it at the market to earn a small income.

Because infections and diseases spread rapidly, the project initially included mobile sanitation facilities. However, since the need for clean water is currently very high, our assistance is initially focused on additional solar power systems. This will allow for the operation of more powerful pumps, ensuring that the wells provide sufficient water. Sanitation remains a critical priority.

The people of Gaza are in dire need of humanitarian aid. The goal of our project is to help them become as self-sufficient as possible. The continued implementation of our aid measures depends primarily on whether the ceasefire holds. Your donation makes a difference – it funds clean water and supports families in acute need. Please continue to support us: Every donation helps protect children and their families and secure their livelihoods.
