Jordan: Psychological support for women and girls
In the city of Zarqa, Terre des Hommes partner SFWS (Soldiers Family Welfare Society) supports women, girls, and families in regaining their emotional stability. The project employs a unique approach: combining traditional psychological support with theater and sports. Theater work, in particular, provides children and adults with a space to express their feelings, process their experiences, build self-confidence, and re-evaluate themselves and their roles within family and society.
The creative group activities are complemented by individual consultations and group counseling. This allows participants to experience community and the feeling of being able to make a difference – and, if needed, to receive targeted therapeutic support. A special focus is placed on women and girls: the program addresses issues such as gender-based violence, entrenched gender stereotypes, and early marriage. At the same time, SFWS staff receive training so they can integrate these methods into their work long-term. In this way, the project provides easy access to psychological support, strengthens the well-being and self-confidence of participants, and encourages them to question gender roles.
