Osnabrück, March 2, 2022 – Hundreds of thousands of women and children are fleeing westward from Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine. Carrying only the bare necessities, they seek refuge in neighboring countries, many enduring days of fleeing in wintry temperatures at Ukraine's external borders. Families are being torn apart, as many fathers are defending Ukraine. There, they are experiencing bombings, destruction, suffering, and death.
terre des hommes ' partner organizations in Poland and Hungary are closely networked with aid organizations active there and can provide quick and unbureaucratic assistance to refugees in this acute emergency situation. "Families fleeing the war receive emergency shelter, food, and hygiene products at the borders. We also provide psychosocial support for the adults and their children, who are often in shock and traumatized. We stand by them with protection and care, and also offer educational programs to help restore structure to their lives, which have been thrown into disarray," says Beat Wehrle, spokesperson for the board of terre des hommes .
Thousands of asylum seekers are making their way to Germany. Here, too, terre des hommes partner organizations, which have been working for many years to advocate for the rights and needs of refugee and migrant children, are actively supporting Ukrainian children and young people. Together, they and their families receive psychosocial support, as well as legal advice and assistance.
