Thousands of people in Gaza risk their lives daily to receive emergency aid – Terre des Hommes and 171 organizations are calling for the protection of the civilian population in a joint appeal.
According to UN and media reports, more than 500 Palestinians have died in the past four weeks while trying to reach aid supplies. The humanitarian situation is deteriorating dramatically: many families are suffering from hunger, violence, and lack of medical care.
According to the latest UN figures, around 470,000 people in Gaza are considered to be at acute risk of starvation, while almost the entire population – over 2.1 million people – is suffering from acute food insecurity.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas perpetrated a massacre in Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostage. Since then, according to health authorities in Gaza, Israeli attacks have killed more than 56,000 Palestinians, including at least 17,000 children. A humanitarian catastrophe of historic proportions.
Our partner organizations on the ground continue to provide aid under life-threatening conditions and work tirelessly to support the civilian population. Aid for children in Gaza is urgently needed.
Our aid in GazaBut what is needed above all is political pressure on the Israeli government to end the suffering.
Terre des Hommes together with 171 other international organizations, demands:
• an immediate and lasting ceasefire and compliance with international humanitarian law.
• the protection of the civilian population and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid.
• the restoration of a UN-led, coordinated aid system that puts the needs of the people of Gaza at its center.
We appeal to the German government and the international community to do everything possible to ensure the supply of food, water, medical assistance, and other essential goods to the people of Gaza. Humanitarian aid must be provided according to international standards and must not be hindered by military action or political blockades.
