About Us

We introduce ourselves

The Terre des Hommes group in Würzburg is part of a nationwide network of Terre des Hommes working groups. We are united by our passion for working together to make a difference and initiating even small changes.

We want to make connections visible: How are politics and economics linked to the living conditions of children worldwide? And what impact do our living conditions have on people in other parts of the world? We want to get to the bottom of these questions and contribute to making global connections understandable.

An important aim of our work is to raise awareness about the causes and background of poverty and hardship among children in the countries of the Global South and to advocate for fairer policies towards disadvantaged countries.

We are open to new ideas and ways of raising awareness of children's rights. Everyone can contribute their own interests and skills and help shape our group.

Why are we involved with Terre des Hommes ?

Rosemarie: "I have remained Terre des Hommes loyal

Meike: "Here at Terre des Hommes I have learned to look at the world from a different perspective. Helping children in need is helping them have a better future."

Erhard: "Why am I involved with Terre des Hommes ' political commitment Terre des Hommes because the members actively advocate for minorities and for a more just world. I appreciate the democratic structure of the association, where all members support and lead the association with their decisions and also involve the project partners."

Günter: “That’s why I work with ‘Terre des Hommes’ – to enable children to have a peaceful, child-friendly development. Doing this in a group of like-minded people is an additional motivation.”

Adelina: "I'm involved with Terre des Hommesbecause I enjoy active project work and children's rights are very important to me. Being able to combine both in my free time is wonderful for me at Terre des Hommes . Furthermore, our diverse group generates many new ideas and there's always a great atmosphere."

Tobias: "Ultimately, it's a small contribution from each individual, which multiplies through our public activities for and around children, providing fun and information for the younger generation as well as raising awareness among adults about projects and fundamental issues. Even a tiny step is valuable if it leads in the right direction."

Voices of our former members:

"I first became aware of Terre des Hommes through a specific project of the children's aid organization in South India, which aims to combat the exploitation of young girls and women in the textile industry. This issue—also in connection with fair and sustainable consumption—is very important to me, and I am pleased to have the opportunity here in the Würzburg Terre des Hommes group to make a small contribution to projects like this: not only by collecting donations, but especially by informing our fellow citizens through various events such as lectures and discussion panels. The Terre des Hommes network provides a framework for raising awareness about the situation of children around the world and for discussing and addressing injustices as well as potential solutions."

"Getting involved with others is one of the greatest gifts you can offer society. I volunteer with Terre des Hommes because I deeply value a world of humanity. There's no better time to get involved in social causes, as every day offers us the opportunity to do good for others. I've found such opportunities at Terre des Hommes !"

"It was important to me to do something good in my free time. I also thought it was great that people from very different age groups and professions were showing commitment to an important cause together."

"After supporting various children's aid organizations solely through financial donations for several years, I looked for an organization where I could also volunteer. I found it in Terre des Hommes . Terre des Hommes is an independent and transparent children's aid organization with a broad range of activities. Volunteer members are given a significant say in the organization's direction. Terre des Hommes not only helps children in the project countries, but also includes refugee children here in Germany. I find it exceptional that members receive firsthand political background information about the respective project countries and also have the opportunity to learn about the work being done there personally."

"I regularly work in Gambia in West Africa and wanted to get involved with an organization in Germany that focuses on the rights of children or women. It was very important to me that the organization be transparent, honest, and open. Terre des Hommes was an obvious choice, especially since it is a volunteer-based children's aid organization that raises awareness about our role in the world and how we affect the lives of children in poor countries."

"I want to use my free time meaningfully and help those who need support. The great thing about Terre des Hommes is that we discuss and organize our projects in a relaxed atmosphere. Doing good without pressure – that's what defines us!"
