Around 50 members gathered in Hanover on September 26-27, 2026, for the annual general assembly. For two days, they debated topics including strategies in light of the changing global landscape and important amendments to the organization's statutes. Members elected delegates for the 2028 Delegates' Conference and volunteer auditors for internal audits. Furthermore, various motions and policy papers on children's right to peace and a resolution on the future for children in a just and peaceful world were adopted.
Presentations and networking rounded out the program. Participants gained valuable insights into project work in Ukraine and engaged in an intensive discussion of Andreas Zumach's critical keynote address, "80 Years of the UN and International Law – A Model on the Way Out?" The presentation addressed the question of how universal human rights norms can be strengthened in the face of their increasing violations. Terre des Hommes in 2027 were also key focuses of Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening, board member Beat "tuto" Wehrle was given a warm send-off with entertaining speeches, poems, and anecdotes.
Many thanks to all the members who traveled from far and wide to Hanover, providing valuable input and thus helping to shape the future of Terre des Hommes – together for children's rights and a strong civil society!
