Participants from all over Germany and Alsace gathered in Hagen, eager for a weekend filled with inspiration and exchange on the regions of South and Southeast Asia.
This year, the former South Asia seminar expanded to include Southeast Asia. Fascinating insights from project regions in Myanmar, Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Thailand, and the Philippines highlighted the diverse challenges and perspectives in these different countries.
In addition to project reports, the focus was primarily on personal exchange. The online exchange with young people from the international youth network proved particularly enriching. They gave compelling accounts of how they advocate for their rights in their local communities. At the same time, they clearly outlined the political changes they desire and their hopes for the future. Their passion, commitment, and profound knowledge of the local situation left a lasting impression on the participants.
Two panel discussions provided an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that connect South and Southeast Asia and how the regions differ. The exchange about how our partner organizations are coping with increasingly limited scope for civil society action was particularly moving. One thing became especially clear: despite considerable resistance, they continue to advocate for the rights of children, young people, and vulnerable groups with remarkable determination. The
' 50th anniversary Terre des Hommes in India. Finally, current insights into the work of Terre des Hommesgroups in Germany and France encouraged participants to get involved locally in addressing global issues.
