Appeal against the suspension of the right to asylum at EU level
Together with 37 other organizations, we urgently appeal to the German Federal Government on the occasion of the European Council on October 15th and 16th to stand up for the fundamental right to asylum!
At the European Council meeting, proposals are being discussed to suspend the right to asylum in certain situations. This means that people, families, and children could be turned back at Europe's borders before they even have the chance to explain why they need protection. Whether they face persecution, war, or torture would not even be investigated. And this would happen with the EU's approval.
"Everyone has the right to seek asylum and receive a fair hearing. A suspension of the right to asylum approved by the EU would be a breach of fundamental European rights and would massively undermine the EU's credibility."
The right to asylum must not be called into question! We therefore appeal to the Federal Government: Stand up clearly at the European level for fundamental European rights – and thus for the right to asylum.
