Vostok SOS helps people in war

Every time the evacuation teams from our partner organization Vostok SOS set out, they risk their lives: Sometimes heavy shelling begins immediately after departure. Often, a settlement cannot even be reached because of the bombing.

Why do they do it? For many, their own life story is the driving force: Vostok SOS was founded in 2014 by people who fled the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. Helping the children, women, and men in their homeland is a matter close to their hearts. “If I couldn’t do anything in this situation, it would drive me crazy,” says one staff member.

"Yesterday we were able to evacuate 500 people from a bombed city. Thank you for your help!"

Every day, families and care organizations contact the Vostok SOS hotline in Uzhhorod, pleading for help. People in the conflict zones and those displaced who have had to leave everything behind urgently need food, hygiene products, and medicine. Vostok SOS is finding ways to procure these essential supplies and deliver them to those seeking assistance. When evacuations are involved, all the details are clarified first: Where is the person located? Can they reach a gathering point? Is there a place they can go after the evacuation? Then, the evacuation teams' routes are assessed and adjusted. Vostok SOS pays particular attention to people with disabilities or those who require special support for other reasons. Often, they don't know where to go after their evacuation. Vostok SOS is doing everything possible to ensure they find new accommodation and can continue living with dignity despite everything.
