Aid for the victims of the war
For seven months, we have been shocked by the images from Ukraine: More and more people are forced to flee the bombs, food and medicine are scarce, and hundreds of schools and kindergartens have been destroyed or damaged. Terre des Hommes is active in Ukraine and neighboring countries, supporting children and their families affected by the war.
Just a few days after the start of the Russian war of aggression, Terre des Hommes launched its first aid efforts. It was the beginning of a long-term commitment. Or, as a staff member of a Polish partner organization put it: "Unfortunately, the war will continue – we need staying power."
Please help with a donation
Terre des Hommes delivers food, medicine, and hygiene products. With the support of our partner organizations Vostok SOS and the Medical Aid Committee Zakarpatty, we are able to bring aid supplies to almost all regions of the country. Terre des Hommes
is supported in this endeavor by the Polish organization Dr. Clown, which delivers medicine to orphanages and evacuated children in Dnipro, in central Ukraine. We now not only provide humanitarian aid but also support initiatives in the areas of education and psychological support for children. In particular, psychosocial support aims to help girls and boys process their traumatic experiences of war. Many children experienced the bombings in bomb shelters or witnessed family members being injured or killed. These children are now also being offered holiday camps, which, through shared recreational activities, are designed to give them renewed strength and confidence.
Aid for refugees in neighboring countries and in Germany
In Poland, the focus of our work is on developing educational programs and providing psychosocial support for children. Together with our long-standing partner, FFIS (Forum for Social Initiatives Foundation), we offer extracurricular activities and excursions for Ukrainian children and young people. These programs are complemented by professional development courses for teachers in crisis intervention and trauma-informed pedagogy.
In Germany, Terre des Hommes supports social and psychological programs for refugee children and young people from Ukraine. These include counseling services in Ukrainian to help the children orient themselves in their new surroundings. We also assist in finding suitable accommodation for children and provide training programs for professionals to prepare them to work with traumatized children.
