PRESS RELEASE

War in the Middle East: Grief and aid

FEMALE, the Lebanese partner organization Terre des Hommes mourns the loss of a staff member after a fatal attack and provides immediate assistance

Ghadir Dandash, a lawyer and volunteer with Terre des Hommes ' Lebanese partner organization FEMALE, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Armon area early yesterday morning. Terre des Hommes mourns the loss of a courageous activist who championed women's rights and stood by them in difficult times. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. Her courage and commitment to equality will always be remembered.

For years, until the war, the organization FEMALE and its community center provided a safe haven for girls and women, a place where they could learn, laugh, and find strength. The center was completely destroyed by Israeli bombs in 2024, but our partner organization FEMALE once again provided rapid and unbureaucratic emergency aid, supplying blankets, food parcels, hygiene products, and drinking water. Now, and also during the military attacks of 2024, FEMALE could rely on the many volunteer girls and women who are part of its network. Ghadir Dandash was one of them.

The escalating military conflict in the Middle East is hitting Lebanon particularly hard and has triggered a massive humanitarian crisis. Intensive Israeli airstrikes, especially in Beirut and southern Lebanon, are forcing people to flee. According to official figures, more than 750,000 people, including 200,000 children, are already registered as internally displaced. People everywhere are seeking shelter in makeshift emergency accommodations; where there is no more space, they spend the night in cars or in the open.
