About Us

Our focus areas

We in Delmenhorst and Ganderkesee feel compelled to act whenever children's rights are violated anywhere in the world. Based on our own experiences and many years of work, the living conditions of street children and exploitative child labor are particular focal points of our work.

We want to highlight perspectives that enable disadvantaged children in particular to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty and exploitation, exercise their rights, and lead self-determined lives. These are opportunities that Terre des Hommes ' project partners continually create in the children's diverse living environments. Of central importance to us in this context is the realization of children's right to education and the right of all children to participation.

To raise awareness of our concerns among the local population, we conduct public awareness campaigns, organize exhibitions and information booths, and collect donations. Members of our working group give presentations, work with school classes and youth groups on our key topics, and lobby locally, for example, for fair trade conditions with developing countries.

To ensure our work is effective, we maintain contacts with schools, other educational institutions, associations and human rights initiatives.

Our network

Together we are stronger

To achieve our goals, we work locally with human rights initiatives, associations, educational institutions and organizations that share our values.

Just one example among many: To make trade relations with developing countries fair and sustainable, we joined forces with the DGB (German Trade Union Confederation) working group on globalization, the Hasbergen initiative group of the Protestant Church , and the Delmenhorst World Shop to form the "Fair Purchasing" network. Together, we have ensured that municipal procurement in Delmenhorst—wherever possible—is carried out according to Fairtrade criteria.

It is primarily thanks to Barbara's commitment that Ganderkesee is now a Fairtrade community.

Important local cooperation partners also include adult education centers.

And furthermore...

… we are also active in other ways:

  • Barbara sings in various choirs and is active in her church community. Until recently, she led the steering committee of the "Fairtrade Community" of Ganderkesee.
  • Regina maintains contact with the Delmenhorst Children's and Youth Parliament, works on the topic of "children's right to a healthy environment" and is involved in fair trade and club development. She also acts as a "Santa Claus manager".
  • Daniel was until recently a member of the district fire brigade association and is once again the coordinator for Terre des Hommesmembers in the far north. In addition, he is Terre des Hommes and – as our token man – the current Santa Claus.
  • Lore is the heart and soul of the Deichhorst meeting place in Delmenhorst and has made a name for herself as a storyteller. She travels extensively in the region.
  • Kerstin is an editor of our Terre des Hommesregional newspaper "Nordinfo", is committed to the topic of "Cultural and Biological Diversity" and works on various levels on the topic of "Alternatives to Development".
  • Mica is our "newbie". She brings great new ideas and supports us wherever she can.
