The BRICS countries are an alliance of emerging economies that originally consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The acronym stands for the first letters of these countries. The alliance has since expanded to eleven members (BRICS Plus), including Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. (Wikipedia)
This describes the economic and consumption model of the wealthy industrialized countries of the so-called Global North, whose prosperity is based on the exploitation of resources and labor in the Global South. The negative ecological and social consequences are passed on to other regions or future generations.
