On the occasion of the anniversary of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine on February 24, 2025: childhood despite bombs, fear and terror

Three years after the major expansion of the Russian attack war on Ukraine began, the social and humanitarian situation remains catastrophic. Children, adolescents and adults suffer from permanent Russian attacks, bombing, destruction, fear and death. Escape from attacks, hunger and terror still shape the everyday life of many families, hundreds of thousands of children are traumatized by permanent stress and enormous stress. At the same time, we are experiencing how the people in Ukraine continue to oppose the attacks and, despite their everyday life, in spite of their everyday life.

Terre des Hommes has supported a total of 78 projects in Ukraine and for refugees in Germany and other neighboring countries with 22.5 million euros in the past three years. »One focus is on psychosocial help for children affected by war and their families. Therapists work with children who are very frightened by the bombings, have lost close relatives or take care of relatives on the front. Of the 19,546 children deported to Russia, 388 could be returned, in particular they need special psychological support to cope with their violent experiences from the re -education camps, «says Joshua Hofert, board spokesman for Terre des Hommes. »In addition, there is direct humanitarian aid in the form of food, medication and other urgently used relief goods. Youth centers are also of great importance in our projects, as I realized during my visit on site. Young people can meet there and talk about their experiences, hopes and wishes. In the conveyed projects we always experience how brave and strong the children are. «

As in all projects worldwide, Terre des Hommes also works in Ukraine with partner organizations of civil society. »We consider it indispensable to include representatives of these civil society organizations in the planned international negotiations on the future of Ukraine. There can be no decisions about the heads of the people in Ukraine. In addition, the view of other ended wars shows that the participation of civil society in peace processes often leads to more sustainable peace, «says Joshua Hofert.
