Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Millions of children suffer from hunger, exploitation and lack of educational opportunities, child labor is widespread. The Taliban pursue human rights activists and suppress women and girls. Many aid organizations have therefore stopped their projects, Terre des Hommes has remained. With your help, we take care of the formation and training of children, provide emergency aid and support human rights activists.

Children in Afghanistan: hunger, child labor and lack of education
In Afghanistan, millions of children suffer from hunger, exploitation and lack of educational opportunities. Girls are particularly affected - almost half of them do not attend school. Many parents are forced to send their children to work instead of to school. Health care is catastrophic.
The radical Islamist Taliban have made life in Afghanistan unbearable for women and girls. From the seventh grade, girls are no longer allowed to go to school, girls are forced to marry and women are not allowed to move freely without male accompaniment. Human rights activists are persecuted.
Our projects on site
Terre des Hommes and its local partner organizations continue to work for women and children in Afghanistan. They negotiate with the local authorities to create the most large scope for action and to ensure support. Despite all restrictions, we can reduce child labor, offer education for girls and fight hunger.
Help along the escape routes
Afghanistan is one of the main countries of origin of those seeking protection worldwide. Young people in particular flee towards Europe every day. With our projects we help Afghan children in neighboring countries, on their escape routes and after arriving in Europe. Since the Taliban took over the power, we have also supported the admission and evacuation of endangered persons, such as women's rights activists, from Afghanistan.
