"I almost never leave our hiding place."
While thousands of local forces and human rights activists live in Afghanistan, the federal government plans to shorten the funds for the recording program. A women's rights activist who has to remain anonymous spoke to us about her dramatic situation on site.
You are currently inherent and live under very difficult conditions. What does your current situation look like?
The situation is extremely stressful. I left my home and live in a secret place to protect myself and my family from the Taliban. As a women's rights activist, I campaigned strongly for women who suffered violence, and that made me a target.
What security measures did you take to protect yourself?
I changed my house, changed my phone number and almost never leave our hiding place. We know that the Taliban have a network in the city that aims to find and arrest activists.
What prompted you to hide you from the Taliban?
There are several reasons. Before the Taliban take over the power, I supported women who suffered from violence, often from relatives who were Taliban members. After the Taliban had taken control, they searched for me and my family. In addition, there are many reports on the abuse of women's rights activists through the Taliban, which make me great concerns.
What did you do for women's rights before the Taliban took over?
I was active in various programs to protect children and women from violence and promote their rights. This included reconnaissance campaigns against the recruitment of child soldiers through the Taliban and support for women in need.
The federal government plans to reduce the recording program for endangered Afghan. What do you think about it?
That would be a disaster. A reduction in the program could mean that fewer people from Afghanistan are saved and the Taliban are encouraged to further tighten their oppression. It is crucial that Germany maintains its support.
What do you want from the people in Germany?
I ask the people and the government in Germany to take media reports about the situation of women's rights activists seriously in the Taliban prisons. Your support is our only hope for security and a fairer world.
