With other aid organizations we are calling for help for Gaza
As a aid organization, Terre des Hommes is horrified by the recent escalation of violence in the region. The atrocities of Hamas from October 7 mean a turning point in Israel, whose population continues to suffer from the consequences and from concern for the kidnapped. We share their suffering.
We are concerned with the highest level that social infrastructure and medical institutions are the goal of attacks that are sometimes violent under international law. The current situation in Gaza is a humanitarian catastrophe. The majority of the two million residents have no access to clean water and electricity, which particularly endangers toddlers and old people. Almost all hospitals are destroyed, vital operations are not feasible without electricity and blood. They live in a confined space after hundreds of thousands fled to the south of the country. There they are not safe from the bombing. People are increasingly suffering from hunger.
We are calling on the federal government to use this destruction and the civilian population in Gaza and also in Israel are protected against violence violent violence.
The local civilian population urgently needs humanitarian aid and human rights support. The right to humanitarian aid, like international law, is an achievement from two terrible world wars that have started in Europe. This right applies to all people - worldwide and without exceptions. It does not mean to request terror and war. On the contrary: the granting of help is an important sign against terror and war.
As auxiliary and human rights organizations that are obliged to the humanitarian principles, we urge the Federal Government not to become tired and to continue to work intensively for the fact that the delivery of relief goods can take place immediately and sufficiently to save lives.
As little tangible as this may appear in the desperate situation in Israel and Palestine: only if there is a future perspective for everyone and the rights of all people in the region are ensured, there will be security for everyone and can the soil be withdrawn from the enemies of peace.
We ask the federal government to work for a humanitarian break that offer the basis for a political perspective of peaceful coexistence in Israel and Palestine.
