Protect and supply for refugee children and families ensure!

Specialist conference on April 29 and 30, 2024 in Neudietendorf near Erfurt for the care of refugee children, adolescents and families in the work of the psychosocial centers

Erfurt, April 29, 2024 - On the occasion of a conference, Refugio Thuringia, terre des hommes and other organizations, require decision -makers from politics and administration to improve the financing of psychosocial care for refugees and to reduce bureaucratic hurdles. This is the only way to realize the right to the best possible mental health for all children.

About every third person flees to Germany is a minor. Children and adolescents come either with family members or alone. They often become very early stuff or affected man -made violence, experience threats, persecution and war, the death of friends and family members as well as imprisonment, abuse and torture. During the flight and after arrival you often learn discrimination and racism in all areas of everyday life, including in education, asylum procedures and health care

Oumar Diallo, activist of the post -migrant self -organization "young people without limits", fled to Germany as a teenager without his parents. He reports: »All the time, as a child, accompany you existential fears. Before escaping you are in a war situation and have experiences with trauma and wish only a safe environment. On the run, children then meet human dealers and experience incredible cruelty. Then you are finally in Germany and it will be so difficult for you to integrate you because there are so many hurdles! «

Robina Karimi, also an activist at "Young people without limits" who fled six years ago without her parents from Afghanistan: »A problem is caregivers who are not trained in this area and do not even know what right children have, how the asylum procedure works and where there is help, also therapeutic. When the people have worked into it, they will be released because jobs are broken down in the area because politics saves and does not provide in the long term. Newly arriving children today meet completely overwhelmed structures, which reinforces their fears and makes their integration difficult. «

Oumar Diallo and Robina Karimi emphasize: »Happiness and chance decide whether and when to get a school place, a place in youth welfare or in a flat share, well -informed care, a therapy place, whether the costs for language composition are covered and much more. That must not depend on happiness and coincidences, these are children's rights! "

In many places, pediatricians, educators and employees in youth welfare offices find that they can only meet the special needs of refugee children and adolescents. The psychosocial centers (PSZ) have decades of experience in multi -professional care, advice and support for refugees and are constantly expanding their work with children and adolescents. However, they are not sustainably financed and can therefore only cover a small proportion of the supply requirement.

Together with Oumar Diallo, Mirjam Kruppa, the representative for integration, migration and refugees at the Thuringian Ministry of Migration, Justice and Consumer Protection, colleagues from the Erfurt youth welfare office, the Refugee Council Thuringia EV and the psychosocial centers discuss on Monday, April 29th, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. Accompanied and unaccompanied minors can strengthen what's current challenges and what it takes in practice and politically to meet them.

The conference on 29 and 30.04.24 also devotes itself to the sick conditions in the arrival and recording systems, digital offers, approaches to therapeutic and social work and interdisciplinary cooperation between various systems dealing with refugees.

The common demands for the protection of health and the benefit of refugee children, adolescents and their families are:

  • Make all the necessary measures to fulfill child rights to the highest level of health and well-being for refugee children (UN UN Convention on the Rights of Children). This includes a reliable information about the multi -professional work of the psychosocial centers for refugee people and victims of torture experiences.
  • All children and adolescents are entitled to individual needs in the sense of child and youth welfare (SGB V III). Discrimination against young refugees is inadmissible. This requires forward-looking financing and good equipment for child and youth planning.

The specialist conference is organized by the Federal Working Group of the Psychosocial Centers for Refugees and Torture Sacher EV, Refugio Thuringia EV, terre des hommes Deutschland EV and the Federal Association for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees EV with the support of further psychosocial centers.
