Help for the victims of the war
For seven months, the images from Ukraine have shocked us: More and more people are having to flee the bombings, food and medicine are scarce, and hundreds of schools and daycare centers have been destroyed or damaged. Terre des Hommes is active in Ukraine and the neighboring countries to support war-affected children and their families.
Just a few days after the start of the Russian war of aggression, Terre des Hommes launched its first relief efforts. It was the beginning of a long-term commitment. Or, as an employee of a Polish partner organization put it: "Unfortunately, the war will continue – we need to be patient."
Help with a donation
Terre des Hommes supplies food, medicine, and hygiene products. With the support of our partner organizations Vostok SOS and the Medical Aid Committee Zakarpatty, it is possible to bring relief supplies to almost every region of the country. Terre des Hommes
is supported in this by the Polish organization Dr. Clown, which brings medicine to orphanages and evacuated children in Dnipro in central Ukraine. We now not only provide humanitarian aid but also promote measures in the field of education and psychological support for children. Psychosocial support, in particular, is intended to help girls and boys process their traumatic experiences of war. Many children experienced the bombings in shelters or had to witness how relatives were injured or killed. Holiday camps are now also aimed at these children, which aim to build new strength and confidence through shared leisure activities.
Help for refugees in neighboring countries and in Germany
In Poland there is a focus of the work in building educational measures and help for the psychosocial care of children. With our long -standing partners FFIS (Forum for Social Initiative Foundation), school -related leisure activities and excursions are offered for Ukrainian children and adolescents. Accompanying this, there are training measures for teachers in the field of crisis intervention and trauma pedagogy.
In Germany, Terre des Hommes supports social and psychological programs for refugee children and young people from Ukraine. These include counseling services in Ukrainian to help the affected children navigate their new environment. We also support them in finding child-friendly accommodation and organize training programs for professionals to prepare them for dealing with traumatized children.
