Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Millions of children suffer from hunger, exploitation and lack of educational opportunities. Child labor is widespread. The Taliban pursue human rights activists and suppress women and girls. Many aid organizations have therefore stopped their projects, we have remained. With their help, we can enable children, provide emergency aid and support human rights activists.

Children in Afghanistan
In Afghanistan, millions of children suffer from hunger, exploitation and lack of educational opportunities. Girls are particularly affected - almost half of them do not go to school. Many parents are desperate and send their children to work instead of to school. Or they even sell them to pay debts or get money for food so that they can feed their other children. Afghanistan is one of the youngest countries in the world. Almost half of the population is under 15 years old.
Workplaces are extremely rare, health care is catastrophic. Since the Taliban took power again after two decades in August 2021, thousands of well -trained people have fled to neighboring countries or Europe in search of a better life. Young people in particular still leave the country in illegal paths towards Europe every day. Many are arrested or killed by the police on the run. In the last week of February 2023, at least 80 Afghan died, including children, when a boat with refugees sank off the Italian coastal town of Crotone.

The Taliban have made life in Afghanistan difficult - especially women and girls. From the seventh grade, they must no longer go to school and not be employed outside of their house. Public work in international or national non -governmental organizations has been officially banned. This has also severely affected the offers of help for all women and girls in Afghanistan, because women are only allowed to run with women.
The Taliban did not respond to the demands of the international community after opening the higher girls' schools and a lifting of the ban on working in non -governmental organizations. Many aid organizations have therefore hired their projects to support children and women in Afghanistan. The result is an increase in poverty and child labor- almost 30 percent of five to 17 years of age work in Afghanistan.
Terre des Hommes and its partner organizations on site do not want to leave the women and children alone and try to negotiate the greatest possible scope for action with the local authorities in order to continue to be able to investigate them. Despite all restrictions and difficulties, the activities help to reduce child labor and to help women generate income.
