The AfD's policies endanger children's rights

Regarding the AfD federal party conference

A number of demands to be adopted at the AfD federal party conference in Riesa, according to Terre des Hommes contradict the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child or endanger the well-being of children. Therefore, we call on politicians and society to respect and defend the rights of all children.

  • If the AfD were to implement its plans, many children with special educational needs being forced to leave mainstream schools. We stand for an education system that includes all children.
  • The proposed migration measures jeopardize the rights and well-being of refugee children , particularly through further restrictions on family reunification and the outsourcing of asylum procedures. We say: These children need stability and security – not hostility and further restrictions on their rights.
  • The main motion in the election manifesto also describes the human influence on climate change as "scientifically unresolved" and rejects various measures against climate change. We say: Children need knowledge and climate policy action, not an ideology of ignorance.

These are just three examples. You can find a detailed statement in our press release .

"I call on the democratic parties to respect and protect the rights of all children, instead of adopting the rhetoric and demands of the AfD. Children's rights create the basis for a self-determined life and secure the framework for children's development. They are indivisible and stand for protection, education, participation, and equal opportunities. These valuable aspects of human life must be preserved."

Joshua Hofert, Head of Communications and Spokesperson of the Terre des Hommes Board
