Afghanistan: Work ban for women in NGOs
Terre Des Hommes is deeply concerned about the decisions of the Taliban to enforce a ban on working for female employees of national and international non -governmental organizations.
Women play a crucial role in the humanitarian aid of our partner organizations by ensuring that needy women and their children have access to aid and traditional and religious customs are respected. Many of the employees of our partner organizations offer specific support for women and girls who can only be carried out by female employees in NRO.
The exclusion of women will have a massive impact on the distribution of food, health care, basic and training as well as the securing of the livelihood of families. Hunger, diseases and the lack of school and vocational training will further worse the already critical situation of the people in Afghanistan.
Serious violation of fundamental rights
The exclusion of women as employees of non -governmental organizations thus represents a serious violation of the fundamental fundamental rights of Afghan women and humanitarian principles and endangers the vital care of affected people. For this reason, all actors of Afghan and international civil society reject any discrimination due to faith, age, gender or minority affiliation.
Under these conditions, we and our partner organizations cannot adequately implement and continue the work. But people in Afghanistan need our support more than ever. Together with other international and national organizations, we are calling on the Taliban to take back the exclusion of women. Until then, our humanitarian aid measures will be greatly reduced or completely exposed.
