At the beginning of July, two tent halls of the Palestinian Organization Mayasem Association in Al-Qarara were completely destroyed in the southern Gaza Strip in air strikes of the Israeli army. A soup kitchen and a school were housed in the tent halls - institutions that were financed internationally with the support of Terre Des Hommes and our alliance partner Medico. The projects provided hundreds of children and families with vital help and educational offers.
“With deep pain we tell you that the Mayasem community kitchen and the DAR of Science and Culture School, in the latest air strikes, were completely destroyed. These facilities were the heart of our humanitarian work. "
Stop arms deliveries, pay attention to international law
With the attack on the facilities, humanitarian infrastructure was again hit, which further tightens the already catastrophic supply situation of the civilian population.
»We judge the attacks on our partner organization and the destruction of humanitarian infrastructure. It is unbearable to have to see how people who provide help under the most difficult conditions themselves become a target. Our demand to the federal government is clear: Do not deliver armaments to Israel as long as there is a risk that they will be used in violation of international law, « says Joshua Hofert, CEO of Terre Des Hommes .
Sign petitionSolidarity with our partners
Our deepest respect applies to the committed members of the Mayasem Association, who are in use despite the constant danger to the people in Gaza. Their commitment and humanity in the middle of the greatest need deserve our solidarity and recognition.
Despite the destruction and continuing violence, we will not let up to support children and families in need and to defend their rights - even under the most difficult conditions.
"We are currently examining the possibility to rebuild the kitchen if the minimal logistical resources are available," writes the Mayasem Association.
