Destruction of aid projects in the Gaza Strip

In early July, Israeli airstrikes completely destroyed two tent structures belonging to the Palestinian organization Mayasem Association in Al-Qarara in the southern Gaza Strip. The tents housed a soup kitchen and a school – facilities funded with support from Terre des Hommes and our alliance partner medico international. These projects provided hundreds of children and families with essential aid and educational opportunities.

"It is with deep sadness that we inform you that the Mayasem community kitchen and the Dar of Science and Culture School were completely destroyed in the recent airstrikes. These facilities were the heart of our humanitarian work."

Stop arms deliveries, respect international law

The attack on the facilities once again targeted humanitarian infrastructure, further exacerbating the already catastrophic supply situation for the civilian population.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the attacks on our partner organization and the destruction of humanitarian infrastructure. It is unbearable to witness how people providing aid under the most difficult conditions themselves become targets. Our demand to the German government is clear: Do not supply any weapons to Israel as long as there is a risk that they will be used in violation of international law,” says Joshua Hofert, spokesperson for the board of Terre des Hommes .

Solidarity with our partners

Our deepest respect goes to the dedicated members of the Mayasem Association who continue their work despite the constant danger to the people of Gaza. Their commitment and humanity in the midst of immense hardship deserve our solidarity and recognition.

Despite the destruction and ongoing violence, we will not cease to support children and families in need and defend their rights – even under the most difficult conditions.

"We are currently exploring the possibility of rebuilding the kitchen, provided the minimum logistical resources are available," writes the Mayasem Association.
