In Chile there are always massive police repression against young people. Relatives of ethnic minorities, but also members of youth organizations such as the student movement, are particularly affected. The South American country has not yet adapted its child and youth legislation to the UN Convention on the Rights of Children, which, for example, provides for protection against discrimination. The La Caleta association has been taking care of the children and adolescents in the misery of the capital Santiago and the port city of Lota in the south of the country for 28 years. terre des hommes supports La Caleta in the persuasion of society and politics to anchor child and youth rights in Chilean legislation.

La Caleta develops projects together with children and adolescents to strengthen children's rights in Chile. In recent years, a "movement for the children of Chiles" has been launched, in the campaign of which 400 projects and organizations are participating, including La Caleta. The children and adolescents of La Caleta have developed and introduced suggestions for the law on topics that affect them and their lives. For example, it was achieved that a regular working group to children and adolescents was set up in parliament. A representative of La Caleta also takes part in this, which means that the organization can directly influence decisions. This requires contacts with the decision -makers, also to ensure the progress achieved. In addition, the children and adolescents develop a contribution to the alternative report of the Children's Rights Convention on the negative effects of mega projects on child rights. In this way, they want to ensure that the child's rights committee expresses itself on the subject and calls for the Chilean state to perceive its responsibility.
