The abuse of children is a criminal offense worldwide - not only at home, but also when traveling and on vacation. Nevertheless, children and adolescents are forced to prostitution: Families often give the need and poverty.

In Southeast Asia, Terre des Hommes supports direct assistance for girls and boys as well as programs to prevent sexual exploitation.

Project examples

With the support of travelers, travel agencies and the Aerticket Group, projects are funded worldwide for this important topic. The following projects in Thailand, on the Philippines and in Cambodia, examples the different activities for the affected children and adolescents:

In order to protect children and adolescents who have become victims of sexual violence in Thailand, the partner organization "Center for the Protection of Children's Rights Foundation" in Thailand offers extensive support and support. The project takes place in four regions, including the areas of Krabi and Chiang Rai popular with tourists.

Through an emergency telephone, the affected children and young people receive immediate help and are cared for both medically and psychologically. The protection of the victims is always the focus. In addition, the organization is committed to improved education and strengthening the child protection system in Thailand.

Project duration: November 2022 to October 2025

Alongside stunning islands, long sandy beaches, and a diving paradise, the Philippines, a supposed paradise, also has its dark side. Poverty and unemployment are the main reasons why girls and women end up in prostitution and are sexually exploited. Many of them are minors and are relentlessly exposed to violence, abuse, and health risks. Terre des Hommes , together with its local partner organization Talikala, is actively committed to protecting these women and girls. They receive support through various assistance programs and are also informed about their rights.

Planned project duration: July 2024 to June 2026

Although prostitution is officially prohibited in Cambodia, business with the "goods" is widespread and large cities like Phnom Penh attract sex tourists and pedophiles.

In collaboration with its local partner organization APLE, based in Phnom Penh, Terre des Hommes is committed to combating human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children and young people, both online and offline. The affected children receive not only legal support but also comprehensive care. The project also offers the opportunity to complete training to find a sustainable way out of prostitution.
