Evaluations and program analyzes

Terre des Hommes typically implements the projects it funds in collaboration with local partner organizations, while supporting the proper execution of the work and the documentation of project success. Local experts advise the project partners during implementation. The results are reviewed and documented on-site.

For large projects or specific issues, external evaluations and program analyses complement Terre des Hommes ' own impact assessments. They can contribute specialized expertise and fresh perspectives. Evaluations have a more critical and evaluative character, while program analyses aim to create a systematic overview and, above all, to further develop the working methodology.

Terre des Hommes distinguishes between different forms of evaluation: Formative evaluations, which are carried out during the course of the project, serve to advise and improve the measure; in final evaluations, the focus is on the results; ex-post evaluations, which are carried out years after the end of the project, are intended to show whether the results have also lasted after the end of the project or have had an even broader social impact.

An evaluation encompasses the analysis of the problem and its context, the quality of planning and implementation, the methods used to achieve the project goal, and the resulting impact. A common thread throughout all evaluations is the desire to learn from both successes and failures and to share this knowledge with others. Terre des Hommes aims to conduct exemplary evaluations for all project regions and all relevant areas of work.
