Lebanon: Help for traumatized families
Starting situation
Every seventh resident is a refugee. The Lebanon has thus recorded most people worldwide compared to its population. This presents the small country, which suffers from a severe economic and financial crisis, with enormous challenges.
Many refugees are traumatized. And the Lebanes still still feel the consequences of the civil war, the psychological and psychiatric support, which was devastated by the country between 1975 and 1990, mainly offer private providers.
Libanon's government has therefore been trying to build national structures for several years. But the need is huge and the dependence on international donors is still great: free mental health services are usually financed by international organizations.
Challenges and planning
In view of the ongoing conflicts, the need for psychotherapeutic support in the region will remain high. Terre des Hommes therefore builds a network of psychotherapists in the Middle East. So far, it is coaches from Europe who train local specialists. With the training of the Master trainer, the EMDR Lebanon Association makes an important contribution to the fact that the EMDR method is sustainably anchored in the region.
