Foreign Office supports the work of Joining Forces in six countries
Hamburg, November 30, 2022 - Joining Forces, the merger of the six largest child protection organizations in the world, receives 16 million euros from the Federal Foreign Office to protect 260,000 girls and boys from violence and exploitation on the run. This is the highest amount that the consortium has so far raised for a child protection project.
The "Joining Forces - Protection of Children in Need" project is carried out in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Colombia, South Sudan and the Central African Republic in order to build protective centers and traumatized girls and boys in warehouses for refugees and in receiving communities. “The number of people who have to flee has never been as high as today. And as always, it is the children who have the most suffering from the effects of crises, «says Kathrin Hartkopf, spokeswoman for the management of the Organization Plan International Germany, who coordinates the project.
The security situation of children and adolescents in many parts of the project countries is threatening. You experience war, flight and displacement. They have lost relatives or have been separated by their parents and are forced to work or military service. Many children are on their own on the escape. Girls are particularly affected by sexualized violence, forcing or early pregnancies.
In addition to many years of conflicts in the six project countries, the global hunger crisis tightens the situation. Food prices have increased extremely, among other things, by the break -in of cereals from Ukraine and Russia.
The project reaches more than 390,000 people, including a good 260,000 children and adolescents, with psychosocial support, the establishment of so -called “Safe Spaces” and child -friendly advice centers. It has a term of two years.
