Civil society demands to the Interior Minister conference

06/17/2024 - With a view to the Interior Minister (IMK), young people without borders, pro asylum, refugee council, Brandenburg, Federal Association for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees and Terre des Hommes Germany with other organizations: refugees need protection - no racist agitation!

On June 20, the World Refugee Day, the IMK in Potsdam meets, among other things, on the topics of flight and migration. The interior ministers of all federal states also decide on the life and future of the many refugee children and young people in Germany. However, the perspectives of those affected are left out. You will also find little hearing. The merger of adolescents without limits is therefore organizing protests together with allies around the IMK. At the start, the demands to the interior ministers were formulated at a joint press conference:

»It is irresponsible to deport people to countries in which they cannot live safely or in which they threaten persecution up to torture and death sentences. We ask the interior ministers to decide an immediate deportation stop for people from Iran and for Yazidi men, women and children from Iraq. The solidarity with those who demonstrate in Iran for freedom and with the survivors of the genocide to Yazidi must have serious consequences, «says Tarq Alaow, refugee spokesman for Pro Asyl.

»Despite poor living conditions in crowded homes, many refugees have to pay high rents for small rooms. An example: Six square meters cost 400 euros per month. In addition, there is no separate living space for people in need in homes, mentally ill or traumatized. The interior ministers urgently need to improve the bad conditions in the refugee accommodation. Refugees have a right to live instead of a life in the camp! «, Emphasizes Mohamed Adam Abona Mohamed, spokesman for young people without limits.

»On the occasion of the conference of the interior ministers, we particularly criticize the introduction of the payment card. With an extremely limited access to just 50 euros cash, the payment card in Brandenburg means a massive restriction of the independent lifestyle of refugees. They flee to us out of fear of war and persecution. Now to manage them using payment cards, is undeniable and pure symbolic policy that plays right forces into their hands. We are calling together and solidarity against this form of racism and exclusion. Finally solves real social problems instead of blaming on refugees! «, Vincent da Silva from the Brandenburg refugee council.

»More than a third of all asylum applicants in Germany are children. The interior ministers therefore have a special responsibility to design their measures and suggestions in such a way that the protection and rights of these children are preserved. Nevertheless, we observe in our projects every day how the right -wing refugees are kicked with feet: in the mass accommodation in Germany, in camps in Greece or on the border between Poland and Belarus. The ideas for outsourcing asylum procedures currently discussed are not only unrealistic and expensive, but simply illegal and inhumane. We ask the interior ministers to finally put protection instead of deterrent in the first place and to ensure safe escape routes, «says Annika Schlingheider, a speaker flight and migration of Terre des Hommes.
