Development cooperation and humanitarian aid need realignment and stable financing

"Compass 2025" by Terre Des Hommes and Welthungerhilfe

Development cooperation and humanitarian aid faces significant upheavals and changes. Despite great needs, the funds for humanitarian aid and combating poverty and hunger were massively shortened last year. In addition, there are increasingly critical debates about the meaning and effect of development cooperation. The Federal Government should understand international cooperation as a driver for common solutions - in the interest of the global south and north.

"Food protection and the development of rural spaces have to be focused on and in particular the poorest countries (LDCs). In countries such as Afghanistan, Burundi or Liberia, hunger and poverty are particularly high and the funds from development cooperation are decisive. African Union's initiatives actively supported and redesigned the nutritional system and to consolidate the decisive role of local non -governmental organizations through reliable access to financing, ”emphasizes Mathias Mogge, General Secretary of World Hunitory Aid.

"In 2024, Germany missed the internationally agreed quota of 0.7 percent of gross national income for development cooperation for the first time in five years. In the upcoming federal budget, there should be even fewer funds for development cooperation and humanitarian help. Board spokesman for Terre Des Hommes . "This particularly affects children who live in poverty and in crisis areas. Almost 500 million children experience the consequences of wars and armed conflicts every day, 85 million of them do not go to school. The malnutrition of children is increasing significantly, children's marriage and the recruitment of children through criminal organizations are increasingly required here.

The "Kompass 2025" is the further development of the annual report on the "reality of development policy", which Terre Des Hommes and Welthungerhilfe have published since 1993. He continues to subject the German development policy of a critical analysis, but takes into account the requirements of the UN agenda decided in 2015 for sustainable development to German politics.

Welthunger aid is one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany; politically and denominational independent. She bravely and determined for a world without hunger. Since its foundation on December 14, 1962, 12,128 foreign projects in around 72 countries have been funded with 5.07 billion euros. Welthungerhilfe works according to the basic principle of help to help themselves: from fast disaster relief to the reconstruction and long -term projects of development cooperation with national and international partner organizations.
