EU Lief Coveret Act must effectively protect children

Child rights organizations appeal to the federal government

Berlin, February 15, 2022-The Children's Rights Organizations Kinderothilfe, Plan International Germany, Save the Children, terre des hommes , Unicef Germany and World Vision, together with the Initiative Zublet chain Act, ask the Federal Government to commit themselves in the EU legislative procedure for a robust and effective EU Syx Syx Duty Act. The occasion is the EU Commission's draft announced for the end of February for a regulation on sustainable entrepreneurial action. Companies are to be obliged across the EU with such an "EU Lief Coveret Act" to fulfill their human rights care in all levels of production.

In the context of the EU legislative process, the Federal Government is asked to advance the announced further development of the German supply chain law through an effective »EU Lief Cover Chain Act«. The organizations demand that the rights of children are particularly taken into account:

Almost a third of the world's population, in many countries in the global south, is more than half of the population under the age of 18. Children are most affected by the negative effects of entrepreneurial action. Most child rights violations such as child labor in mining or the stress of environmental toxins in agriculture or the textile industry often take place at the beginning of global value creation and supply chains. It is therefore indispensable from the perspective of the organizations that companies are obliged not only to identify children's rights risks in their direct business partners, but also in all of their value chain and supply chains and, where necessary, to ensure effective remedies, prevention and redress.

This would result in the EU Lief chain law across the German supply chain duty law and would better meet its child law obligations.
