Federal government must grant refugees far -reaching family reunification!

Osnabrück, September 19, 2022 - The International Children's Aid Work Terre des Hommes, together with many other associations, calls on the Federal Government to quickly implement the improvements in the coalition agreement for family reunification for refugees.

"We expect the Federal Government to give its promises to realize fundamental rights to family life for refugee top priority," said Beat Wehrle, board spokesman for Terre des Hommes. "This would signal the government to match the World Children's Day that the well -being and the rights of refugee children are concerned."

According to the current legal practice, unaccompanied minor refugees can have their parents, but not their siblings. This form of family separation is a strong psychological stress for many children and adolescents, which can have negative consequences for their further development. »Both international law and the Basic Law oblige Germany to protect the right to family and primarily take into account the child's well -being. In German family law, the ratio of siblings is based on special legal protection, «said Sophia Eckert, Terre of the Hommes speaker for flight and migration. »It is no longer necessary to accept that this does not apply to the siblings of unaccompanied minor refugees. Siblings belong to the nuclear family. «

Furthermore, Terre des Hommes, together with the partners of this initiative, call for the reduction of administrative hurdles to apply for visas and to limit the waiting times to a maximum of three months in German representatives. Language skills should no longer be necessary before entry, rather the refugees should learn the language in the place where it is spoken.
