Siblings belong together!

For the international day of children's rights on November 20th

Osnabrück, November 17, 2022 - On the International Day of Child Rights On November 20, the child rights organization Terre des Hommes calls for unaccompanied minor refugees to bring their minor siblings to Germany.

»Many refugees children and adolescents who come to Germany without their parents have often not seen their siblings for years. Because if you receive refugee protection, only your parents have a right of follow -up, the siblings do not. They are usually not allowed to come, even if they are at infant or toddler age, «says Sophia Eckert, escape and migration expert at Terre des Hommes. "Many families often remain separated from each other for years or permanently."

Together with numerous alliance partners, Terre des Hommes appeals to the Federal Government under the hashtag #sibling belonging to enable the input of siblings unbureaucratically.

»Siblings belong together, families must not be separated permanently. With the coalition agreement, the traffic light parties have agreed to improve the legal situation in the process of siblings. We therefore expect the Federal Government to make a legal right to the siblings in the next migration package and ensure that no child has to live without his family, «said Joshua Hofert, Board of Directors Communication at Terre des Hommes.
