Osnabrück/Berlin, January 23, 2025 – Affordable rents, stable pensions, decent wages, and a solid infrastructure – many of the election campaign's themes revolve around important social issues. However, from Terre des Hommes , the rights of children and young people must play a much more important role.
"As a children's rights organization, we appeal to the next federal government to focus on the integration, development, and participation of all children and young people. However, with few exceptions, the parties' election manifestos lack an explicit child and youth perspective. In other words, there is too little focus on the well-being of children," explained Joshua Hofert, board spokesperson of Terre des Hommes . "We are therefore launching the campaign 'Your Vote for Children's Rights,' which focuses on children and their rights. We have observed significant differences in this regard in the parties' election manifestos."
This applies in particular to disadvantaged and marginalized children and adolescents. Refugee children have the right to protection and care. If refugees come to Germany alone, everything has to be done to be able to live with their families and integrate.
The debate about the suspension or reform of the Lief chain law is also falling short. Our prosperity must not be based on the exploitation of children who have to work in South Asian textile companies or in mines. Many companies make themselves strong to maintain transparency through their suppliers in order to be sure that their products are not produced with the help of working children.
“If we are concerned with the well -being of the children, we can not only look at Germany. The demands expressed by different sides for a drastic reduction in development cooperation would have dramatic effects, «said Joshua Hofert. »Rather, the numerous crises and famines show that development cooperation and humanitarian aid are of enormous importance. They reduce the causes of flight, save children and their families from starvation, create new life perspectives and strengthen democratic systems. We therefore appeal to all voters to give their voice for children's rights. "
