A wide alliance of auxiliary and development organizations has a sharp criticism of the Federal Government's Redesign Plans for International Cooperation

Warning over 30 NGOs: "Reasons threaten successes already achieved"

Berlin, 07/17/2024 - The cabinet design for the Federal Budget 2025 is. Despite all appeals, the Federal Government has also launched massive cuts in the areas of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. The alliance #luftiglag believes this red pencil policy is irresponsible. It asks the Bundestag not to carry the cuts and find ways not to restrict the performance of the Ministry of Development (BMZ) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA).

The BMZ budget from 12.2 billion (2023) was shortened to 11.2 billion euros for the current year. The BMZ budget is to be reduced to EUR 10.3 billion to 10.3 billion euros. The Federal Foreign Office is also affected by the massive cuts: from 7.5 billion euros (2023), the budget has already been reduced to 6.7 billion euros this year. The Federal Government's draft budget now provides for a further reduction in the budget to 5.9 billion euros for 2025. This has not only a strong impact on the overall list of the ministry, but also on the financial design of German humanitarian aid, which has already been cut from 2.7 billion euros (2023) to 2.2 billion euros (2024) and is to be cut together to EUR 1.04 billion.

In a joint appeal, a total of 32 German non -governmental organizations (list below) require the reduction of the cuts for development cooperation and humanitarian aid: »The budget planning of the federal government is short -sighted and undermined Germany's self -established goal of standing up for a fairer, more wealthier, peaceful and safer world. For short -term savings, the Federal Government accepts long -term damage and abandon the people who need our help most urgently. As a result, there is a risk that we fall behind the successes already achieved in the areas of poverty and hunger fighting, education, global health, climate protection and strengthening women and girls. To catch up again will become many times more expensive. Today's cuts are the crises of tomorrow. "
