Campaign "A heart for families"

Together for family reunification

The new federal government plans to suspend family reunification into a subsidiary persons for two years. Specifically, this means that many refugee children, young people and their families would have to live separately - often over the years without knowing when they see each other again.

With the "One Heart for Families" campaign, we set a strong sign against these plans together with Pro Asyl and the Federal Association and the Federal Association. Our goal: prevent the suspension of family reunification and protect the rights of children and families.

This is how the action works

We provide an action package consisting of a gingerbread heart with the slogan "A heart for families", a postcard and a personalized cover letter. You can order this package from us free of charge and hand over to Bundestag members (MDBS) in your constituencies - preferably of course personally, or by post. On the postcard you can leave a personal message and explain why you are committed to the suspension of family reunification.

Families belong together!

When people flee to Germany, they often leave everything behind - even their closest relatives. But not all refugees have the same rights: Those who are recognized as a refugee in Germany are generally entitled to family reunification. People who receive so -called subsidiary protection - because in their country of origin they threaten serious danger from war, torture or death penalty but cannot be proven individual persecution - only have limited opportunities to catch up with their family. The family reunification for this group is already heavily regulated and associated with long waiting times.

The Federal Government is now planning to fully suspend family reunification to subsidiary protection for two years. This means that thousands of families who already live separately would have to wait longer for a reunion - without knowing when or whether they will ever be united. This is an enormous burden for those affected: the uncertainty, concern for relatives and life in constant fear for their security make it difficult to arrive in Germany.
With the planned suspension, one of the few legal and safe ways on which families can come together would remain closed for a long time. This particularly affects children and adolescents who rely on the protection and security of their family. The suspension of family reunification contradicts the right to family and the child's welfare.

Every voice counts!

Whether alone, with friends, local initiatives or refugee councils: Together we can draw attention and show that families belong together. Every action, whether large or small, makes a difference - for the right to live together and a human asylum policy!
